Resolve to edge in a little reading every day, if it is but a single sentence. If you gain fifteen minutes a day, it will make itself felt at the end of the year.”

The goal of the Elementary Language Arts Curriculum  is to develop the essential skills of reading, writing, listening, speaking and research. The reading component, designed to be a balanced approach to literacy instruction, includes the Five Critical Areas outlined by the National Reading Panel: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.  Students are required to write frequently across the disciplines to build fluency and competency in organization, content, mechanics and style. In addition, research projects and presentations that also support science and social studies are completed at least once yearly in conjunction with specialists from our library and technology staff.

Instructional materials include Harcourt Collections Series, Project Read, and Megawords.
