FLES Statement - March 2009

Foreign language in the Elementary Schools Program Phase-In Delayed

Because of the uncertain financial situation, and the realization that at this time we may not have the funds to support the full phase in of the FLES program, the UCFSD Administration and School Board have decided to delay the implementation of the FLES program until the 2010-2011 school year. We continue to be committed to the program, and in the coming school year we will, where practical and possible, infuse the Spanish language throughout the buildings. Please contact John Nolen, jnolen@ucfsd.org, the Director of Elementary Curriculum and Instruction, if you would like to participate in the planning of some creative ways to promote student awareness of the Spanish Language. We would like to thank the many teachers, parents, and administrators that dedicated many hours to the development of the FLES program vision. Your hard work and creativity is greatly appreciated.
