School Closing Information

Depending on the timing of the early dismissal, students will be served breakfast and may also be served lunch. You are welcome to pick up your child directly, or they can ride their bus. As a reminder, to ensure the safety of our youngest learners, UCFSD bus drivers will not leave Kindergarten and Pre-First students at their bus stop without a parent or guardian there to meet them. For other elementary students, Make sure your child has a designated place to go in the event of an emergency or early dismissal. It is very important that you discuss this with your child beforehand. Should the situation arise, your child will then already know where to go. It is very important for us to know that your child is in a safe place.

In the event of a delayed opening, your child’s bus will arrive two hours later than usual. Full details on elementary, middle, and high school two-hour delay schedules are available via the Schedules page.

Traditional

UCFSD builds 182 days into the school year, allowing up to two traditional closures without impacting our ability to meet state day/hour requirements. Any traditional closures beyond two would require a make-up day or a waiver.

Flexible Instructional Day

In addition, UCFSD participates in a Flexible Instructional Day (FID) program with the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE). The FID program allows school districts to turn an inclement weather or other emergency day into a day of online instruction (up to five days per school year). Sometimes called “Save Summer Days,” FIDs provide continuity in our students’ education without needing to extend the school year in June.

During a FID:

• Teachers will communicate expectations for the day with students through email, Google Classroom, or Canvas.
• Students must check in with their teacher through Google Meet at the following times:
  • UHS: 9 a.m. with first period teacher (6th period for TCHS students)
  • CFPMS: 9 a.m. with advisory teacher
  • Elementary: 9:30 a.m. with homeroom teacher
• Teachers will be available to answer questions via email or to conduct a Google Meet session during the following times:
  • Secondary: 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 12:30 p.m. to 2:50 p.m.
  • Elementary: 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 3:20 p.m.
• Students will be assigned asynchronous work to do at home.
• Assignments are to be turned in at the end of the day or before the start of the next school day unless otherwise instructed by the teacher.
• Students will be considered present for the day if they complete their morning check-in AND finish the work assigned within the time allowed.
• Paper/pencil assignments will be sent home in November and January in the case that families have no internet at home during a FID.
• A support hotline is available for technical issues at (610) 347-0970 x. 3367.
