Students at our UCFSD elementary schools had the opportunity to try three different apples sourced locally from Frecon Farms. Varieties included Golden Delicious, Macoun, and McIntosh. These local apples were also featured in all of our UCFSD cafeterias the following week. They were a delicious addition to our breakfasts and lunches!
The PA Harvest of the Month for April is leafy greens. This month, students at various schools had the opportunity to taste test red and green hydroponic butterhead lettuce from a farm in Telford, PA. Hydroponic farming is great for the environment and is able to be done all year round! Read more about the farm here.
UCFSD cafeterias will be making home - made chili using beef locally sourced from Katt and Mathy Farms in Landenberg, PA. At Katt and Mathy Farms, all natural black angus beef cattle are raised humanely, on beautiful land where they are able to graze freely. The cattle are not given any growth hormones or antibiotics, they eat a well balanced delicious diet of grass and grains, and even listen to music while basking in the sun!
