Unionville High School Junior Named Young Ambassador for PennDOT, KPB Program

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) and Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful (KPB) announced Unionville High School’s (UHS) Noori Choudhary as a 2024-25 Young Ambassador.

The program, administered by KPB, encourages high school students to advocate for clean communities across Pennsylvania. The 40 student ambassadors will gain experience related to the impacts of litter prevention, waste management, civic engagement and related public policies, as well as volunteer management and social media marketing. Students were selected through a competitive application process and have committed to nine months of service as ambassadors.

Choudhary, a UHS junior, is going into the program with extensive experience. She has planted hundreds of trees by leading volunteer tree-planting events at the Brinton Run Reserve in West Chester. Choudhary also interned for Pennsylvania State Representative Christina Sappey and State Senator John Kane last summer. “I worked with them on canvassing and developing political strategy. I learned a lot through shadowing them,” she explained.

“I love that our young people are stepping up in so many ways to actively contribute to their communities. They are passionate and engaged in creating a cleaner, safer and more inclusive world,” Representative Sappey shared. “I’ve seen this first hand in Noori. We need leaders like her queued up for the future, and I am tremendously proud of her commitment to the public good!"

"The Young Ambassadors program offers an incredible opportunity for students like Noori to hone their civic engagement skills and make a tangible difference in keeping Pennsylvania clean and beautiful. Noori's dedication to environmental stewardship is truly inspiring, and I have no doubt she'll excel in this role, just as she has in her other endeavors,” added Senator John I. Kane “Her selection is a testament to the bright future of our state's youth leadership. Congratulations, Noori—Chester County and our Commonwealth are proud of you!"

Ambassadors will collaborate to plan events and initiatives similar to the work they are already involved in. The program will also provide outreach to promote the students and their work, including media coverage at volunteer events.

“I like to volunteer. It’s so much fun for me,” Choudhary explained. “I’m extremely excited about this program. I think it is a great opportunity to learn more about environmentalism and policy and to connect with public officials.”
