Huskies to Welcome Mr. Brett Thomas as Principal 

Following Board approval on June 15, the Unionville-Chadds Ford School District (UCFSD) will proudly welcome Brett Thomas as Principal of Hillendale Elementary School (HES). 

Mr. Thomas succeeds current HES Principal Josh Leight, who is transitioning into his new role as the District’s Director of Human Resources at the conclusion of this school year.

Mr. Thomas joins UCFSD from Marple Newtown School District, where he is the current Principal of Russell Elementary School. He previously served as an Assistant Principal, Dean of Students, Department Chair, and Emotional and Learning Support Teacher in Radnor School District. 

Mr. Thomas earned his undergraduate degree in Special Education from West Chester University and his master’s degree in Educational Leadership from St. Joe’s University.

“All of us in UCFSD know Hillendale as more than just a place– It’s a people,” wrote Superintendent Dr. Tim Hoffman and Assistant Superintendent Mr. Michael Audevard. “Among an impressive pool of candidates, Brett stood out to us as a seasoned administrator who will not only provide steady leadership, but whose spirit of care, connection, and inclusion is a perfect match for the staff and students of “Happy Hillendale.”

His first day will be Monday, August 3. 

About the Search for a New Leadership at Hillendale Elementary School 

The search for the Principal of Hillendale Elementary School (HES) began with a series of focus groups for members of the HES community. Feedback gathered from the Focus Groups informed the interview process.

Like other administrative searches at UCFSD, interviews also included representatives from all corners of the community, including families, staff, administrators, and school board members. This intensive process offers the District a collaborative approach to finding the best fit for the position.
