UCFSD Transportation Driver Places in Chester County School Bus Safety Competition

UCFSD Transportation Driver Places in Chester County School Bus Safety Competition

On April 29th, the 42nd annual Chester County School Bus Safety Competition was held at Marsh Creek 6th Grade Center in Downingtown. The School Bus Safety Competition is a series of obstacle courses, as well as a 50 question written exam with questions taken from the PA School Bus Driver and Commercial Driver's Manual. School bus drivers from all over Chester County competed in this event. UCF’s drivers’ participation in this competition demonstrates their commitment to safety and sharpening their skills as professional drivers.

After taking a written test, drivers competed for points on a course that challenged them in the following categories: verbal vehicle pre-trip inspection, bugged-bus, diminishing clearance, controlled right turn, parallel parking, offset alley, simulation railroad crossing, simulated bus stop, height judgment, curb line parking, straight line, and back up. Dozens of transportation supervisors, drivers, and police officers participated by serving as event judges.

Unionville-Chadds Ford driver, John Dolan (Bus # 1 & CDL Instructor), placed 10th, which qualifies him to advance to the state-level competition held at State College in June! UCF has not been represented at the state level competition since the early 80's. Congratulations, Mr. Dolan!
