Unionville High School Hosts International “Anne Frank– A History for Today” Exhibition

In May, Unionville High School (UHS) was home to the exhibition, Anne Frank– A History for Today.

Coordinated by the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam in partnership with the University of South Carolina’s (USC) Anne Frank Center, the exhibition is on view only 300 times per year at institutions across the world.

The exhibition tells the story of Anne Frank against the background of the Holocaust and the Second World War, where the experiences of the Frank family shed light on events and processes that took place before, during and after the War. The exhibition contains many photos of the Frank family that are combined with other photos and information about historical events.

“The Longhorns were honored to host Anne Frank– A History for Today as a part of our commitment to creating a culture of belonging for every member of our community. This month, more than 1,800 individuals will have experienced Anne’s story of hope and heartbreak, including every UHS student and staff member.”

Perhaps most importantly, tours were led by the Longhorns themselves. A group of 20 students received exclusive training from the USC Anne Frank Center this spring to help set up the exhibition and to serve as docents.

“Our student docents provided special perspective, making important connections to the everyday lives of their peers,” added Jenkins.

“I had some prior knowledge on World War Two going into it, but I learned a lot of information specifically about Anne and her early life, such as her childhood before going into hiding,” reflected UHS student Liam Edelstein. “I believe that the exhibition gives those who see it a deeper connection to the events, as it is unique from a normal classroom setting.”

The exhibition opened to the public on two evenings to a sold-out crowd.
