Robotics

A student walks out of school smiling on the last day

Robotics inspires students in the pursuit of education and careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) through a structured program where kids experience STEM in a creative and fun environment similar to an athletic program, where team spirit and progressive competition stimulates participation aligned with the FIRST ®core values of Gracious Professionalism® and Coopertition®.

UCFSD Robotics currently supports 2nd-12th grade students in our competitive afterschool programs.

FIRST has three Robotics Programs. UCFSD Robotics supports teams in two of the programs, FIRST LEGO League (FLL) and FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC). For the 2026-2027 season theme "Canopy," all programs will focus on challenges inspired by nature.

Students, parents, and community volunteers can join us! Reach out at any time to the Robotics Coordinator Mx. Sunyata for more information.

2025-26 Robotics Highlights

The Silver Wolves robot on the competition floor

In February, the Unionville High School (UHS) Silver Wolves were chosen to represent Pennsylvania in the inaugural U.S. Governor’s Cup in Washington D.C. In advance of the competition the Silver Wolves were featured in District News: Capitol Bound for the Governors Cup. Alongside their alliance partner Desoto Technix representing Mississippi, the Silver Wolves won the U.S. Governor’s Cup.

The District’s FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) teams: Green Lemons, Flaming Phoenix, Teletubbies, Silver Wolves, and 2 Eyed Illuminati also qualified to compete in the 2026 Pennsylvania FTC State Championship. The Green Lemons advanced to the Premier Event. The Silver Wolves' received the Think Award and advanced to the FIRST Championship in Houston, Texas.

At the FIRST Championship, the Silver Wolves competed in the Lovelace Division, sponsored by CrunchLabs, into the playoffs. The Silver Wolves ranked 12th out of 57 teams in their division.

The UHS Maker Space

A mentor coaches students learning robotics

The UCF Education Foundation awarded a grant to transform part of the UHS Library into a functional Robotics Makerspace with the assistance of departments around the District. The Robotics Makerspace opened in the 2025-26 School Year.

All sanctioned UCFSD Robotics mentors are able to reserve the UCFSD Robotics Makerspace for practices and workshops. Teams are able to reserve lockers to securely store their equipment.

UHS Robotics students and students interested in Robotics are able to visit and use the Robotics Makerspace during Lunch and Learn.

Unionville Student Robotics Council

The Unionville Student Robotics Council (U.S.R.C.) meets every two months to discuss ideas for the FTC and FLL teams and the UCFSD Robotics Makerspace.

This UHS Club was previously called the UCF Robotics Club. The U.S.R.C. is run by UHS students for the benefit of all UCFSD students participating in FIRST Robotics programs. It is open to all UHS students participating on FIRST Tech Challenge teams. UCFSD Robotics Coordinator Mx. Sunyata serves as the faculty advisor.
